Spring Break Ideas

If you are like me, you are looking for fun, interactive, but LOW cost ideas for Spring Break! Here are a few I've around the county:
  • Tiny Tot Skate @ Skagit Skate. A great idea for Tuesday morning! If you have a child under 8 years old, stop by Skagit Skate from 10:00am-11:30am for a special skate time for only $4 (and one parent per child skates free!)
  •  Padilla Bay Aquarium. This fun little aquarium is open to the public Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00am to 5:00pm. A great chance for little ones to learn about our local sea friends and how important it is to take care of our environment. If the weather cooperates, take a walk down the path to the free beach access!
  • Museum of Northwest Art. This local art museum is now offering FREE admission! Take the kiddos to learn about fabulous art and see wonderful exhibits. Free admission Sunday & Monday 12pm-5pm, Tuesday-Saturday 10am-5pm.
  • Local Parks. One of my favorites for a sunny day is Washington Park in Anacortes. It has everything! A great beach filled with everything an kid needs to explore. Rock, sand, tide pools, seaweed, and if they look hard they can even find little crabs! On top of that there is a playground and a great walk through the forest to the amazing lookout. And all for FREE!
  •  Jungle Playland. $3.95 for kids 18months-2years, $8.25 ages 3-12 years. Adults and non-walking infants are free. Open Monday-Thursday 12pm-5pm, Friday 12pm-7pm, Saturday 10am-7pm, Sunday 12pm-7pm.
  • Chuck E. Cheese's. Located in the Cascade Mall in Burlington, you can get quite a bit of entertainment out of $5-$10 worth of coins! Once your coins are spent, check out the kids play area in the mall to get a few more wiggles out before heading home!
  • And don't forget the enriching, fun, FREE entertainment to be found at your local libraries! Check out the great selections of kids books, and most libraries have kids toys and/or legos available as well. Anacortes, Burlington, Concerte, LaConner, Mount Vernon, Sedro Woolley.
Why not explore outside Skagit? Some great LOW cost ideas are:
  • Mindport in Bellingham - for the crazy low cost of only $2 per person, your kids can explore this scientific, silly, humorous museum. Open Wednesday-Friday from 12pm-6pm, Saturday 10am-5pm, and Sunday 12pm-4pm.
  •  Is your kid into electricity and inventions? Check out SPARK Museum in Bellingham! Their admission price is only $6/adult, $3 for kids under 11. Open Wedneday-Sunday 11am-5pm.
  • Thursdays from 3pm-5pm are 1/2 off admission prices at the Imagine Children's Museum in Everett! This would make admission for everyone over 12 months old only $4.75! This museum is amazing with a rooftop huge junglegym, and indoor treehouse, a music room, art studio, play farm and wildlife clinic, water play area, and more!
  • Outback Kangaroo Farm in Arlington. Tour fees are reasonable at $8.00 for children ages 2-12, $9.00 for adults, and $8.00 for Seniors. Tour Schedule: Wednesday – Sunday, 10 a.m., 12 p.m., 2 p.m., & 4 p.m. Get up close and personal with adorable kangaroos, wallabies, llamas, goats, donkeys, lemurs and more! I would recommend wearing boots and have a change of shoes in the car - you will be walking in the animal's enclosures and all that entails!
